An important figure in contemporary fine crafts in Québec, Carole Frève has to her credit some 250 original pieces. Interlaced Stories: Carole Frève, Glass Artist offers a new reading of the artist’s production and unique contribution to the discipline for over 25 years.

By combining her training in industrial design with fine crafts and a specialization in glass, Frève has both assimilated and transgressed the different hot glass techniques to reveal new possibilities. She has proposed bold technical innovations, including the use of copper as a complementary material. This know-how combined with an original poetic universe places Carole Frève among the great glass artists of the 21st century.

This book, the result of a collaboration between art historian Bruno Victor Andrus, artist Carole Frève, and the MUMAQ team, outlines the artist’s professional career, approach, and technical processes. The recurring themes of Stories, Duo, Protection, and Angels as well as the technical processes of hot glass, metallic knitting, and low-tech electronics are analyzed in detail. Finally, texts, photographs, and illustrations highlight the artist’s intentions and invite new interpretations of the ways in which Carole Frève has exploited the resources of hot glass.
