« A word from the director

The first time that Alain Salesse came to show me his exhibition project, I was of course impressed by the quality of his work, but also by his folly, his strangeness and the extravagance of his artistic statement. Not negatively, on the contrary. I really enjoy folly and excess in art. Alain pushes the limits of his medium, ceramic, far beyond the usual conventions. The Vessel becomes the Earth, an egg, a womb...and through technology, it transforms itself into living worlds that let us dream with our eyes and ears open.

Then I met with Victoria Block and discovered her art, made up of lacework composed of ceramic and light. Astral is the word that comes to mind when one attempts to describe it. And one would wish to be able to exhibit her work in complete darkness in order to erase matter and only keep the light, which one could then call universal in the sense that it emanates from and represents the Universe. On the other hand, matter also carries messages, its apparent fragility evokes the fragility of life itself, of our existence. »

This catalogue was produced for the exhibition Terraciel, works of Victoria Block and Alain Salesse, presented at the Musée des maîtres et artisans du Québec, from May 14th to June 29th, 2014.
